What is the EOS model and how can it help you get the most from your business while growing your brand?

When we are starting a business, then trying to grow that business, there are a lot of struggles that we face coming from several different areas and sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming. The EOS model, or Entrepreneurial Operating System, is developed using 6 main components, and is a way to help entrepreneurs run their business in a way where they can get everything, they want from their business by implanting it.

The 6 components of the “EOS model” as explained by Gino Wickman are:

  1. Vision – Get everyone in your organization 100% on the same page with where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. (This builds off the 5th P that we discussed in an earlier blog, “Purpose”.)
  2. People – By putting the right people in the right seats in your business, you’ll be surrounded by great people who will help you achieve your vision.
  3. Data – What gets measured gets done. We’ll show you how to boil your organization down to a handful of objective numbers that give you an absolute pulse on your company.
  4. Issues – Become great at solving problems throughout the organization – setting them up, knocking them down and making them go away forever.
  5. Process – Creating a handful of core processes will help systemize your business and build a well-oiled machine that drives more consistency, scalability, and profitability in your organization.
  6. Traction – Bring discipline and accountability into the organization – become great at execution – take the vision down to the ground and make it real.

In the pet industry I know that many of us start out small, most of the time 1-2 people. As we grow and add employees to our teams, and grow our client base exponentially year over year, it is important to keep the EOS model in mind to help with organization of the business side of things.

Wickman also mentions a concept he calls “Rocket Fuel”. This is where one person is the “visionary” and comes up with the ideas for the business. They are the creative true entrepreneur that strategizes the ideas behind the business. They combine forces with another person who is an “integrator”, that runs the day to day of the business and is the glue that keeps the visionary grounded. Wickman states that if you can have both people working together in your business, its “rocket fuel”, a similar concept to having a power team.

With the rate at which the pet industry is growing each year, it’s important that we consider strategizing around the EOS model and trying to set up our “Rocket Fuel” team before we are nose deep in our business and too busy to take the time to reposition the business around these things. Being busy is always a great thing, but without organization and proper structure, you risk missing messages from customers, scheduling requests, or even potential clients that could have been onboarded with your business. When customer experience goes down, business starts to go down, and this will diminish customer lifetime value to nearly nothing.
